The Difference Between Consultations & Co-Management
What Are Consultations?
Consultations include comprehensive eye exams where you can ask any questions about laser eye surgery and we can help you determine if you’re a candidate. These consultations ensure your eyes are healthy for laser eye surgery. While most people can have laser eye surgery safely, some conditions could affect your candidacy.
These conditions can include:
- Dry eyes
- Overly large pupils
- Corneal conditions
- Eye infections
- Eye diseases
It’s important to note that laser eye surgery doesn’t guarantee 20/20 vision, and you may have to still wear glasses or contacts to make the most of your vision.
What is Co-Management?
Co-management helps ensure your eyes heal properly following surgery.
Our team will schedule a series of follow-up appointments with you where we’ll examine your eyes, assess how they’re healing, and see how your vision is developing.
You may experience some side effects after your surgery, but these are normal, and your eyes should start to stabilize after a few days.
Symptoms can include:
- Dry eyes
- Halos around lights
- Glare
- Light sensitivity
- Blurry vision
- General discomfort
Please contact us if your symptoms are getting worse over time.
What Is LASIK Eye Surgery?
During Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery, an ophthalmologist makes a tiny incision in the outermost layer of your cornea, creating a small flap. This flap gives them access to your underlying corneal tissue, also known as your corneal stroma, which is reshaped with an excimer laser to correct your eyesight.
After reshaping your corneal tissue, your ophthalmologist will place the flap back in its original position to heal.
It may take a few weeks for your eyes to heal completely, and we usually recommend booking a few days off of work or school to recover.
